Portland-Milwaukie Light Rail

The Portland-Milwaukie light rail project is the newest addition to the Trimet MAX (Metropolitan Area Express) light rail network. The new line will travel through Milwaukie, SE Portland, Central Eastside, cross the Willamette at OMSI and stop by Riverplace—just one streetcar stop or a short walk from South Waterfront—and then continue to downtown Portland. Planning is still in the preliminary stages; an environmental impact report is now being conducted. Current estimates for completion of this line are for 2014.

Lake Oswego Streetcar

August 30, 2007

Originally called the Willamette Shore Trolley, there are currently talks about using the old line to extend the modern streetcar route to Lake Oswego. The idea is that the addition would relieve traffic along Highway 43. City officials and a citizens advisory committee are debating whether or not this is the best solution, a bus line might be more effective, or if anything should be done at all. This is your chance to weigh in, the decision will affect all od us in SWF..

SWF Carpools

August 28, 2007

New infrastructure and technology aren’t always the best solution for traffic and commuting. My wife carpools with co-workers everyday, and saves time, money, and greenhouse gasses in the process. This site (www.carpoolmatchnw.org) is a great resource for matching up with other locals looking for a ride, or a way to use the carpool lane. If you’re already in the loop, use this as a forum to share your experiences; locations, hours, and who plays the best music.

Bike Portland

August 27, 2007

If you know of a better place for biking, I’d like to know about it. One of the best things about Portalnd is it’s love of cycling, whethet it’s on the road, in the mud, or just plain old rolling around town. As you’d expect there are a number of awesome shops in the area. I’ve had a lot of luck with the Bike Gallery, but if you’re looking for a more independent feel, I’ve heard Gateway Bicycle on 119th and Halsey is a well-informed and personal experience. Any other recommendations for stores, routes, or brands should be posted here.
