Come learn how the Neighborhood Park design has been refined to reflect community comments on four early design concepts. This open house is your opportunity to give input on the preferred design. Design Team and Project staff will be on hand to answer your questions.

As one of the first parks and open spaces to be developed in the district, the design of this park will help set the tone for new development in the South Waterfront District. Bounded by SW Moody, Bond, Curry and Gaines Streets, the 2-block Neighborhood Park will provide a public place where area residents, workers and the community can enjoy recreational and social activities in the heart of the District.

The preferred design drawings, open house presentation and comment form will be available online starting April 22. Visit www.portlandparks.org and look under What’s New on the home page. The deadline to submit comments on the preferred design is May 2, 2008.

John Horvick is the project director for the Parents and Children Together study at Oregon Health & Science University . Horvick graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor of Science degree in sociology. Horvick is currently a co-chair of City Club of Portland’s New Leaders Council and has served on several research study committees. Outside of the Club, he is a volunteer with Portland ’s neighborhood mediation program.

Tibetan Monk Mandala for Peace

South Waterfront and the SWF Artist in Residence are honored to host The Gaden Shartse Monks who will build a Sand Mandala, an intricate symbol of world peace at the South Waterfront. The Mandala will be built over two full days (Feb 4th & 5th) for world peace; on Tuesday, February 5th at 7 PM the Mandala will be dissolved and some of the sand given out to all who are witness. The remainder will be given to the Wholistic Peace Institute to help them with their efforts to develop an International Peace Center & Dalai Lama World Peace Studies Center.
